Conditions

  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles

With age and the accumulation of environmental damage, the skin begins to lose its youthful elasticity and natural oils resulting in a weakening of the overall structure. Repetitive muscle contraction from daily facial movements coupled with a breakdown of collagen and elastin tissue leads to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles including the common smile and frown lines or crow’s feet around the eyes. As the skin loses its ability to recover, these lines and wrinkles become deeply rooted.

  • Volume Loss

Facial volume loss is the result of change in the composition of skin fat, bone, and tendons. The skin’s fat distribution is affected by a multitude of factors including a change in body weight, excessive sun damage, and the body’s natural intrinsic aging process. Each of these factors cause a shift in skin’s superficial and deep fat distribution leading to a loss of facial volume.

  • Redness

Facial redness in the form of flushing or spots is a common complaint that can be triggered by photoaging, menopause, adult acne, or rosacea. The result can be the increased appearance of flushed and inflamed skin, visible blood vessels and the sensation of irritation and itching.

    Causes:

Photoaging Rosacea Acne Menopause Sensitive skin

    Treatments:

  • Brown Spots

Brown spots, sun spots, age spots, freckles and hyperpigmentation are formed by an accumulation of excess melanin or pigment within the skin’s surface. Pigment is the skin’s natural form of defense against environmental and inflammatory aggressors. These aggravators trigger excess melanin production for cellular protection when they are excessively exposed. With age and repetitive damage, these dark spots accumulate and can become permanent if left untreated.

  • Hair Loss

Hair thinning and hair loss is one of the most common conditions and concerns we see at our practice. It can affect the scalp or the entire body and may be be due to hereditary or hormone-related pattern baldness, stress, vitamin deficiency or an autoimmune disorder (alopecia areata). Hair loss impacts both sexes, though it is more common in men (50% of the US population) than women (around 25%). Regardless of the type or extent of hair loss, the condition can often be very debilitating. Proper diagnosis, care and treatment is essential.

  • Spider Veins

Spider veins are dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin that appear as a thin, visible network of lines that are red, purple, or blue. Generally harmless, these veins commonly appear on the face, legs, and feet for a multitude of reasons including hereditary predisposition, hormonal fluctuations (including birth control and pregnancy) as well as sun exposure.

    Causes:

Family history Hormonal fluctuations (birth control/pregnancy) Obesity Standing for long periods or activities that increase pressure

    Treatments:

    Sclerotherapy IPL FotoFacial
  • Melasma

Often referred to as the “pregnancy mask,” melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation due to excess melanin or pigment production within the skin. While the exact causes of melasma are not quite clear, this skin condition is thought to be triggered by hormonal fluctuations from pregnancy and birth control pills. External aggressors like sun exposure can also exacerbate these brown/grey-brown patches or cause a rebound of the pigmentation after treatment.

    Causes:

    Pregnancy Hormonal fluctuations

    Treatments:

  • Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is the overactive experience of sweating that is not linked to the body’s regular response to maintain body temperature. In short, it occurs outside the experience of ‘normal’ sweat triggers such as stress, heat, or exertion. Hyperhidrosis can be general or localized to target areas such as the feet, hands, underarms, and groin.

    Causes:

Overactive sweat glands Hormonal fluctuations Hereditary Certain medical conditions

    Treatment Options:

  • Acne Scarring

Acne scarring is a common and unfortunate side effect of inflammatory acne that can be exacerbated by the picking or squeezing of acne lesions. When acne flare-ups are deeply rooted, they damage skin’s underlying tissue dissolving collagen. As the acne clears and skin begins its healing process it produces collagen to repair this structural damage. Often skin can over synthesize collagen leading to raised acne scars or under produce collagen causing depressed or pitted acne scars.

    Treatments:

  • Unwanted Fat

In some circumstances excess fat can become stubborn and resistant to diet and exercise. Depending on which area of the body the fat is stored, such as under the chin, inner or outer thigh, under arms, flanks or abdomen, it can be difficult to isolate and dispel unwanted fat through traditional lifestyle changes.
